I showed a designer friend of mine while visiting the “city of crazy winds” and showed him a few of the stylings in SL modeling. He gave a look of disgust and said “if that were in a RL, you’d be thrown off the runway”. “It’s overstyled”, he went on to say. He went on to say these piercing words “you should know better, you’ve been doing this for awhile now”. So here i am, bringing a little of what i used to do in RL to SL. On over-styling, no model goes on the runway showcasing clothing with tons of bracelets and necklaces in RL because they know the importance of keeping the outfit the center of attention. But it doesn’t seem that case in SL. On avant garde and goth designs, it is fun to look all dark and sinister and unique, but these are not the benchmark of “good” styling, instead, they are but just a very small part of fashion. I am not the best, and i am guilty of the above mentioned. Sometimes we need a knocking on our heads to remind us that there’s only a thin line between fashion and fantasy styling, you either look like a model, or a character in a RP sim.
The true versatility of a stylist is put to test when you can style to a theme without people having doubts of what theme you were styling for.
